Appreciating the Ordinary

Before having kids, we often demanded a lot out of life, basing our happiness on material possessions, exciting experiences, and external factors. However, once we become parents, our perspective shifts. The narcissism and cynicism of youth fall away as we find joy in the simple, ordinary moments shared with our children. The comedian John Mulaney exemplifies this shift, as he now treasures watching a garbage truck with his son more than he used to treasure cocaine. Parenthood teaches us to appreciate the small things and find happiness in the everyday.
