Normalize The Conversation by Inspiring My Generation
Starting A Nonprofit, Talking About Mental Health, and Balancing School & Advocacy with Sam Gerry
In 2018, 2,039 high school students died by suicide making it the second leading cause of death among youth ages 14-18. Mental illness and suicidal ideation are prevalent among this age group. Thus, it is imperative that we work toward suicide prevention for our youth.
Welcome to Normalize The Conversation, today I am joined by a student-athlete at Bates College and the co-founder of Kick It For A Cause Inc, Sam Gerry. From a charity fundraiser started in high school supporting organizations like American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Mental Health America evolving into a nonprofit organization, Sam is passionate about advocacy work in suicide prevention as a result of his own suicidality. Join us as Sam shares his mental health journey and how he balances school and mental health.
