Can Thyroid Hormone Imbalances Result in a Loss of Memory?
In my opinion, there’s no question that a thyroid hormone imbalance can be a factor in memory loss.
I’ve had many patients - both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid - come to my practice complaining of difficulty concentrating and memory loss. This type of dysfunction goes beyond the simple forgetfulness that comes as we get older, but the good news is that, in most cases, it’s temporary.
Today I’m sharing some research into the connection between thyroid imbalance and cognitive impairment, especially dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
In this episode, you’ll learn about:
- The relationship between thyroid disorders and cognitive impairment
- Cognitive consequences of hypothyroidism
- Treatments to reverse the negative cognitive effects of thyroid disorders
- The association between hypo- and hyperthyroidism and Alzheimer’s disease
- Whether there’s a cause-effect relationship between thyroid dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease
- The role of inflammation in cognitive impairment
As always, I hope you found this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
