Today we are addressing the issue of whether to pay off the house or not.

It's an age-old debate in the financial world.

On one hand, it seems foolish to pay down the mortgage faster than you have to, especially if you could invest the money and make more than the interest you're paying.

It goes something like this. "Why would I pay down my 3% loan if I could take that same money and make much more? Heck, I could even put it in a simple index fund and make 8-10%."

That isn't a terrible point but I'm here today to give you a different perspective.

There is, as is often the case, more to the story than just some quick math.

I think I have a fair perspective as I just paid off my mortgage.
