Misunderstandings and distortions of “deny yourself and take up your cross daily”  Luke 9:23-24
This message is important to anyone grappling with this verse
Also for anyone dealing with church-hurt and having participated in martyr-spirit or controlling matriarchal spirit.

Here's the verse I'm discussing:
"And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross daily [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]." Luke 9: 23-24 (Amplified Bible)

There are two kinds of self-love: degenerate (ego-centric, self-obsessed) and healthy/ integrated. There are also two kinds of fears: the neurotic anxiety of the ego-centric and the wholesome humility of fear before the majesty of our Creator. It is vital to understand these to know where the misunderstanding and distortion of the above verse come from.
