Before You Kill Yourself: a suicide prevention podcast. Joshua LeBreton: How to use music to navigate our darkness
Musician, Joshua LeBreton and I talk about looking at our feelings objectively, Joshua’s disruptive childhood and the abandonment struggles that resulted from that, retreating into ourselves, building authentic communities, and how music can make us feel seen and less alone.
Joshua opens up about how he never knew his biological father, navigating an unstable household, being witness to many divorces and step-fathers, having to go to eight different elementary schools, and how those experiences made him feel robbed of safety, being seen, and even cultivating friendships.
We also talk about the desire to retreat inward when we feel unsafe, and how Joshua found solace and safety in music—both playing music and listening to music. And Joshua shares his new project, The Canary Yellow, which serves to help us feel seen and less alone through song.
