Schooling vs Education Distinction: What is the Difference and Why is it Important to Know:
What is the distinction between education and schooling. What is learning, what is schooling, what is education? The purpose of education ought to be this: to create compassionate and creative students who will help develop and sustain a just society where all individuals are able to live happy, fulfilled lives — as free from pain and suffering as possible. The goal of education should also be to ensure we achieve species-wide transcendence and bring about civilisation-level change so that we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past as we move forward into the 21st century and beyond.
We often talk about schooling not being educational, but it usually remains just talk. When the talk finally reaches the point of action, it tends to reduce to talk about the fact that students aren’t learning the existing curriculum very well, and too many are falling behind. It isn’t, in other words, an effective discussion about education at all.
