Deep dives
Emulating Nature's Layers in Gardening
In permaculture gardening, the approach mimics nature's layers, starting with low ground cover plants, progressing to shrubs, small trees, and tall trees to achieve maximum photosynthesis and plant diversity. By considering and occupying each layer, gardening can be optimized to replicate natural ecosystems.
Utilizing Quantum Energy for Health Benefits
The podcast discusses Leelacu, a company focusing on quantum energy products for enhancing well-being. These products, like necklaces, chargers, and blocks, aim to elevate quantum energy levels, neutralize electromagnetic fields, boost ATP production, HRV, and blood flow. Studies reveal significant protective and improvement effects on blood cells.
Practicing Permaculture for Sustainable Farming
The episode features permaculture experts Doug and Brad discussing their approaches to sustainable farming. They highlight creating self-sustaining ecosystems by incorporating nitrogen-fixing plants, herbal medicine cultivation, and soil enrichment techniques like composting crop residues and worm composting. Water management, plant selection, and herbal medicines play key roles in their permaculture strategies.
Growing Herbs in the Pacific Northwest
In the Pacific Northwest region, growing herbs like Tulsi thrives due to the extended periods of summer light, allowing rapid growth. When deciding what to plant, it is crucial to consider personal preference in order to cultivate herbs that align with individual tastes and needs. By focusing on what one enjoys consuming, a more personalized and fulfilling gardening experience can be achieved. Additionally, the sustainability and practicality of gardening in this region are emphasized.
The Benefits of Adaptogens like Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha, known for its calming energy benefits, offers resilience by relaxing the nervous system, fostering strength and vitality. It serves as an adaptogen, regulating the nervous system based on the body's needs. The root of Ashwagandha, when consumed regularly, helps in promoting a sense of calm energy and overall well-being. The adaptogenic properties of herbs like Tulsi and Ashwagandha enhance awareness and consciousness in making optimal health choices.
Imagine the lush landscape of Hawaii — the brilliant green foliage, the vibrant flowers, the fragrant herbs and plants — being transferred into your backyard or the parcel of land you've purchased.
In today's episode, I welcome Brad Krass and Doug Wolkon (a repeat guest on the show) who are experts in creating thriving, bountiful farms using only two or three acres of land.
If you aren't familiar with my previous podcasts featuring Doug Wolkon of Kauai Farmacy (use code GREENFIELD15 to save 15%), I first discovered him through my friend Laird Hamilton when he brought me to Doug's fabulous farm in Kauai. He was growing a vast array of superfoods and extracting and making tinctures, oils, powders, and all sorts of different compounds from his small farm, using fascinating tactics. Since then, I've been a huge fan of Kauai Farmacy. I use their teas, salves, lotions, dried cacao beans, and all sorts of crazy superfoods that show up at my house from the islands every few months or so from Doug.
Doug ended up training Brad (also featured in today's show) who lives very close to me. Brad took all of Doug's concepts and did the same thing in Sandpoint, Idaho, about an hour from my house. Brad's farm, New Flower (use code BEN to save 10%), is a permaculture-based herb farm that promotes a wellness lifestyle culture through natural farming practices and a nourishing herbal apothecary with high-quality herbal products.
Learning how to farm in Hawaii and then reapplying it to a different area of the world is such an interesting concept that I knew I had to get this duo on the show together. By the end of today's episode, you'll walk away knowing more about all things farming, gardening, permaculture, and how to grow food anywhere using the cool concepts that Doug and Brad have implemented.
