Deep dives
Distinction Between AI-First and AI Add-On Systems
The podcast discusses the emerging distinction between AI-first vendors and those that simply add AI functionalities onto existing systems. Initially, many software companies in HR tech integrated AI as an enhancement to existing features rather than as a core component. For example, companies like Vizier and Workday used AI tools to amplify their analytics and transactional features without fundamentally changing their systems into AI-first platforms. This creates confusion as organizations struggle to determine which systems are genuinely AI-driven and which are merely utilizing AI as an add-on to traditional operations.
Learning Management Systems and Compliance
The conversation highlights the significance of accurate tracking and validation in learning management systems (LMS), emphasizing that compliance-critical processes must operate correctly. Traditional standards like SCORM were developed to ensure that training content could be tracked effectively, but they create barriers to personalized, effective learning experiences. An AI-native system could address these challenges by allowing learners to interact dynamically with content instead of following a linear, rigid course structure. This shift promises to facilitate a more adaptable and user-specific approach to learning, enhancing overall training outcomes.
The Potential of AI in Performance Management
The podcast explores the transformative potential of AI in the realm of performance management, traditionally viewed as a cumbersome process for both employees and managers. By leveraging AI, organizations could provide insightful, data-driven feedback to employees, helping them identify strengths and areas for development without the burden of traditional evaluative methods. An AI-native system could analyze vast amounts of performance data, allowing for a more personalized approach that fosters learning and growth. This evolution in performance management tools reflects a larger trend of integrating AI across various HR functionalities, enhancing efficiency and user engagement.
This week I discuss this massive shift toward “AI-Native” applications and systems which are radically different from traditional HR Tech, with a particular focus on L&D. I also explain how new AI architectures are so completely different from our traditional types of HR platforms, and how vendors have to be more expansive with their thinking. Vendors here include Sana, Degreed, Docebo, CodeSignal, Arist, Uplimit, and many other pioneers to come.
(I recorded this on a walk today so it sounds like I’m outside, but hopefully you enjoy the new ideas here.)
I’m going to be diving into this at L&D Technology in UK this week and much more at Unleash Vegas the first week in May.
