One of the first steps is to recognize the negative language we use, such as saying 'can't' or believing that nothing works for us. This language creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. We need to change our language and start believing that we deserve success and positive change.
Our belief systems are often shaped by past experiences and external influences. We might carry beliefs about ourselves that no longer serve us. It's important to identify and challenge these limiting beliefs. This can involve exploring childhood programming, recognizing the impact of others' words and actions, and replacing negative beliefs with new, empowering ones.
Instead of saying 'I'll try,' we need to shift our mindset to one of commitment. Trying implies a lack of belief in ourselves and sets us up for failure. Commitment means fully dedicating ourselves to a goal or lifestyle change. It requires perseverance, consistency, and the belief that we are capable of achieving what we desire.
The podcast discusses the importance of creating a sustainable lifestyle for weight loss rather than relying on radical and ineffective methods. It emphasizes the need to change belief systems and mindset when embarking on a weight loss journey. The speaker debunked myths surrounding weight loss, such as the idea of having to starve oneself or labeling foods as good or bad. Instead, the focus should be on learning what to eat and understanding how food affects the body. The speaker promotes the idea of teaching people to make informed choices rather than relying on strict rules or counting macros.
The podcast challenges the belief that hard work leads to success in weight loss and suggests a shift towards intelligent work. The speaker highlights the subjectivity of hard work and how different individuals perceive it differently. Instead of solely focusing on hard work, the emphasis is on being intelligent about food consumption, movement, and mindset. The speaker advocates for understanding how food makes one feel, being aware of one's body and output, and aligning psychological and metabolic principles. This intelligent approach eliminates the need to obsessively count calories or macros and encourages individuals to learn what works for them.
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Jay Nixon. He is a skilled speaker, author, coach, and mentor for anyone looking to get results and permanently alter their way of life. Over the years, Jay has helped thousands of people gain confidence and be their best selves. He hosts a podcast called "Thrive Forever Fit", which covers topics related to diet, exercise, and mentality that can influence how we feel and behave.
Jay’s father was killed in an accident when he was five. As a coping mechanism for the tragedy, food became his way to comfort himself and led him to overweight. But even in this condition, Jay has always been interested in fitness and nutrition.
When he got older, Jay engaged to different sports that helped him on his weight journey. However, he still struggled with his mind as he is anxious about how his body looks. Nonetheless, he became a personal trainer at 17, and since then, Jay has begun to find the path to where he belongs. Ultimately, he decided to open his gym, started writing books, and began his career on coaching people.
Thrive Fitness Studio is the name of his gym and everything associated with it is called Thrive Forever Fit because Jay believes we should do something consistently for as long as we live. He wanted to teach people how to live comfortably so that we wouldn't have to do radical things that have been proven to be failures.
In this episode, Jay Nixon digs into the issues and wrong beliefs that hinder people from achieving a healthy body and lifestyle. Additionally, Jay emphasizes the value of having the correct mindset when losing weight and some takeaways you can implement immediately to begin your journey towards forever fitness. Tune in as we chat about the mindset around the food, myths about losing weight, advice to start right away, and the difference between intelligent work rather than hard work.
