The attempt at defying the Chalukya overlords failed. The Hoysalas faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Sinda chief Acugi II.

But Ballala I deftly navigated the challenges of a disappointing military legacy and an empty treasury. 

The unique circumstances of Ballala I's marriage to three sisters was a bold move that defied the Dharmasastra. 

Ballala I laid the crucial groundwork for the future greatness of the Hoysala dynasty, paving the way for his illustrious brother, Vishnuvardhana, with whon began the golden age of the Hoysalas.

Ballala ruled for only six years. But it sure feels a lot longer.
