Dr. Theresia Lavergne: Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Postbiotics | Ep. 60
In this episode I had the great pleasure of welcoming Dr. Theresia Lavergne to talk about the world of “biotics” and how to use them to overcome some of the main challenges in modern poultry farming. Through her extensive knowledge in the field, Dr. Theresia gave us valuable insights into how we can adopt strategies to control salmonella in poultry at the pre-harvest stage, mainly through the use of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics. Furthermore, we discuss how “biotics” can modulate the intestinal microbiota and how their usage can reduce the use of antibiotics in poultry production.
“Prebiotics remain largely undigested by poultry and linger in the gut, providing an optimal nutrient source for the beneficial bacteria residing there.”
