In order to reach a goal - long or short term - we must must identify the incremental steps that are necessary. Numbers are important because it helps us to know whether you've met a goal or not. You can't that you've made it to a destination that's out of town if you have only driven the vehicle to the end of the driveway. But, maybe after the driveway, can get to the stop sign, then to the traffic light. Let's take it to the highway, etc. Now, you can say that you've made some progress and finally made it to your desired goal.
