Deep dives
Building a Team of Planters
When thinking about who should be on a church planter's team, it is important to remember that God works through community. In the Bible, we see that God often finds a person first and then that person builds a team. Even when we look at the example of the Trinity, we see that God works in community. It is a core conviction that no one person has all the gifts needed to fulfill their calling, so building a team is crucial. For planters who may not have a team yet, it is important to remember that God does not waste relationships. Every person that comes into your life has a purpose, and they can be a part of fulfilling the calling on your life and vice versa.
Navigating the Who of a Church Plant
When thinking about the who of a church plant, it is important to consider biblical perspectives and principles. In the Bible, teams are a crucial part of fulfilling God's purposes. What we can learn from Scripture is that finding the right people to be on your team is essential. Look for individuals who align with your vision, have complementary gifts and skills, and share a passion for reaching the community. Remember that God works through relationships, and he will bring the right people into your life at the right time. Don't be afraid to rely on others and expand your network to find the right team members.
The Power of Building a Team in Church Planting
Building a team for a church plant is not only essential, but biblical. Looking at examples in the Bible, we see the importance of having a group of people working together towards a common goal. God did not design us to fulfill our calling alone, but to depend on others and their gifts. When building a team, consider individuals who share your vision and values, have diverse skills and strengths, and are committed to reaching the community. Remember that relationships and community are at the heart of church planting, and investing in the right team members can lead to powerful and transformative impact.
Influencing Culture through Purposeful Inputs
To influence culture, it's important to be purposeful about the inputs we provide. Sometimes, team culture can drift or change without us realizing it. This can be due to external circumstances like the pandemic or a shift in focus. Engaging staff members may become disengaged, and there can be a lack of energy, passion, and commitment. To influence culture positively, we need to be intentional about what we put into it. This includes considering the inputs at every stage of a team member's journey, such as the interview process, onboarding, performance plans, and reviews. By aligning these various inputs with our desired culture, we can shift the culture in the direction we aim for.
Connectors vs. Networkers: The Power of Building Relationships
Connectors and networkers have different mindsets and approaches to building relationships. Connectors are others-focused, oriented towards abundance and collaboration. They prioritize adding value to others, fostering long-term relationships based on trust and genuine connection. Connectors are more likely to create lasting impact and legacy through their relational approach. On the other hand, networkers are me-focused and transactional, seeking personal gain and short-term advantages. They often keep score and can be small-minded in their thinking. Connectors, in contrast, have a transformative and multiplication-oriented mindset, seeking to bring about positive change through their relationships. By adopting the connector mindset, leaders can enhance their influence, build trust, and create a network of mutually beneficial connections.
