In this episode I talk to Dr. Benjamin Laird, associate professor of biblical studies at Liberty University, about his brand-new Creating the Canon: Composition, Controversy, and the Authority of the New Testament, which is out now on IVP Academic. In our conversation, we discuss how the 27 documents that became the New Testament were produced, including the process of writing and how they were shared, copied, and spread. Laird then explains how they came to be identified as a collection of writings, critiquing both popular myths and explaining how the works that became the New Testament were identified as authoritative soon after they were written. Finally, Dr. Larid explains how the New Testament writings are all associated with the apostles, which makes them both authoritative and historically reliable. You won’t want to miss this!
