ADHD is identified as a neurodevelopmental disorder where a person's brain fails to transition from a predominance of theta brain waves, associated with lower processing speed, to faster beta waves as they age. This persistent high level of theta can lead to issues such as difficulty focusing, procrastination, and cravings for instant gratification. The implication is that if symptoms were not present before age 12, they may not stem from the organic form of ADHD but could be responsive to other factors.
The Role of Screens and Behavioral Influences
A substantial increase in adult ADHD rates, reported to be 43% over a decade, aligns with the rise in screen usage and exposure to explicit material.
