En la década de los 90s, Chile enfrenta un problema de escasez energética. Con el desarrollo económico del país en juego, el Estado resuelve construir varias centrales hidroeléctricas. La más grande se ubicaría en el Alto Bío Bío, un paraíso natural en la cordillera andina, que desde hace siglos es habitado por los mapuches, el pueblo indígena más grande de Chile. Ante la amenaza de que su gente sea despojada de lo que le pertenece, Víctor Ancalaf, un líder comunal, decide hacer algo... Sin importar el costo.
