The Role of Systems in Achieving Results
Every individual has systems in place that drive their results, whether they are aware of them or not. If outcomes are not satisfactory, the onus falls on changing these systems to achieve different results. W. Edwards Deming’s quote highlights that every system is designed to produce the results it gets, emphasizing the need for self-reflection about current systems in one’s life. Changing systems can be challenging, as it may involve recognizing and accepting responsibility for both successful and negative outcomes.
The Ziegler Wheel of Life as a Framework
The Ziegler Wheel of Life serves as a comprehensive framework to evaluate multiple dimensions of life, including spiritual health, personal relationships, fitness, and work. Assessing the effectiveness of systems in these areas can uncover insights into personal progress or stagnation. For instance, one's approach to health and wellness, such as eating habits and exercise routines, directly impacts physical outcomes. Recognizing the systems that lead to specific results allows for actionable changes to enhance overall life satisfaction and achievement.
Addressing Plates and Adaptation in Personal Growth
Experiencing plateaus in personal growth is a common phenomenon that indicates it may be time to adjust existing systems. Just as fitness routines can become ineffective over time due to the body’s adaptation, personal habits may also require reevaluation to yield better results. For example, individuals may notice weight gain or a lack of muscle growth if they stick to the same routines without modification. Therefore, proactively researching and implementing new systems is essential for fostering continuous improvement and progression in various aspects of life.
Like you, I’ve worked hard to gain more knowledge. Create healthy habits. And I’ve seen results. From this, I really want to wake up, have a good day, and have everything in my life progress. I get healthier. I get wealthier. My relationships just get richer. I feel spiritually connected. My work is more fulfilling. I'm more peaceful and joyful. What I find however, is that things plateau. Maybe stagnate, or even start eroding. Changing systems in my life often created good change and progress. Until they didn’t. And as I hold on to them, I live out the definition of insanity; doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. W. Edwards Deming famously stated, “Every system is perfectly designed to get the result that it does.” Even if a system gave positive results, if it’s not now, then…it’s not. And “it” won’t change until we change. What does that look like?
