Let's Talk About Loneliness! Laura Reynolds talks to Verena Graupmann about social exclusion, loneliness and social isolation.

Verena Graupmann is an Associate Professor of Psychology at DePaul University’s College of Science and Health, in Chicago. Originally from Munich, Germany, she has received her PhD from the University of Sussex, UK (2009), did postdoctoral work at the University of Salzburg, Austria, and at the University of Munich, Germany (Habilitation, 2014). Her teaching and research are in the fields of social and cultural psychology.

Her research focuses on how people respond to threats to central self-motives across cultures, and how reducing perceptions of threat can reduce resistance to change and increase wellbeing. Specifically, she is interested in how people deal with freedom restrictions, social exclusion, cognitive dissonance, and threats to self-continuity in different contexts, including the perception of art, and in relation to culturally determined self-definitions.

She teaches social psychology and cultural psychology with an approach of guiding students to integrate course content, their lived experience and current societal issues.
