Psalm 139:7-12 NLT
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day.
Today as we continue in Psalm 139, we are reminded once again that the Kingdom, the community of God is everlasting and ever-present. David’s poetic words paint a picture of a faithful Father always watching, always protecting, always lighting our path, when we find ourselves in dark places, even at times, by our own hand.
Psalm 139:9-12 MESSAGE
Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit?
to be out of your sight?
If I climb to the sky, you’re there!
If I go underground, you’re there!
If I flew on morning’s wings
to the far western horizon,
You’d find me in a minute—
you’re already there waiting!
Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark!
At night I’m immersed in the light!”
It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.
On your best days, God is there. On your worst days, He is there. Even in the darkness, even when the light is hard for you to see, His hand is there to guide you. His strength is available to support you. He can overcome any darkness. All you have to do is just call on Him.
There is no where you can go, no depth that you can sink to, no shame that keeps you from your Father’s presence, acceptance and protection.
Let’s pray: “Heavenly Father, thank You there is no darkness with You. You can shine Your light anywhere I am because of Your always-available presence. Today, I invite Your hand into my life. I receive Your light into my life. As above, so below. AMEN”
