Therapist and spiritual guide Dina Schapiro discusses how to shift limiting beliefs, integrate plant medicine experiences, and heal ourselves, our communities, and the Earth. She compares talk therapy to working with plant medicine and emphasizes the importance of aligning the body and mind for manifestation. The podcast also explores the concept of slowing down time, embracing newness, and taking responsibility for oneself and others.
Taking responsibility for ourselves creates a ripple effect that influences the collective and frees us from external blame, allowing us to change from within and shift our interactions and beliefs.
Shifting from head-based beliefs to body and intuition-based beliefs is crucial for manifestation and positive change, as beliefs formed in the head are often disconnected from experiences and discourage transformation.
Deep dives
Taking Responsibility for Ourselves
Taking responsibility for ourselves means owning our actions, thoughts, and impact. When we focus on ourselves, we don't need to take responsibility for others. By being responsible for ourselves, we create a ripple effect that influences the collective. It frees us from external blame and allows us to change from within, shifting our interactions and beliefs. The work of healing starts from the inside out, not the outside in.
Shifting Belief Systems and Manifestation
Belief systems play a key role in manifestation. Shifting from belief rooted in the head to belief experienced through the body and intuition is essential. Beliefs formed in the head are often disconnected from our experiences and discourage change. By trusting our bodies and allowing ourselves to believe in new ways, we can shift our fundamental beliefs and manifest positive change in our lives.
Healing and Responsibility
Healing goes beyond self-focus. It extends to healing the community and the earth as well. By shifting our focus from individual healing to collective healing, we create a sense of responsibility for our impact on the world. Taking responsibility for ourselves leads to an awareness of our actions and their impact. Through this, we contribute to the collective healing and work towards making the world a better place.
The Courage to Embrace Newness
Embracing new experiences and sensations can be uncomfortable, challenging us to step outside our comfort zones. It requires the courage to be new and unfamiliar with ourselves. This process involves recognizing that discomfort is a natural part of growth and allowing ourselves to move through it. By shifting our perspective and believing that newness is part of our journey, we open ourselves up to transformative experiences and personal growth.
A conversation about how to get our bodies (and our brains) onboard with manifesting a new reality.
In this episode, I take a deep dive into the mechanics of healing with Dina Schapiro. Dina has been a therapist for over 20 years; she’s also a professor, and formerly the director of the graduate arts therapy program, at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. These days, in addition to teaching, she works with clients to offer spiritual guidance and help them integrate plant medicine experiences.
Ideas we explore in this episode:
How to shift limiting beliefs and get our minds and bodies onboard with new thought patterns
The difference between what happens when you do talk therapy versus what happens when you work with plant medicine
How it’s time for our focus to shift beyond simply healing the individual to healing community and healing the Earth
