In this episode, I sit down with the owner of Kodiak Barbell, Stuart Locke. I coached Stuart for almost 6 years and have seen him grow into one of the most well known coaches in the powerlifting space.
Stuart suffered bi-lateral quad tendon ruptures 6 weeks before me and we were both struggling to find helpful and relevant information during the recovery process. After navigating the rehab ourselves, we learned more than we could have ever imagined and collaborated on a robust resource to help others going through quad or patellar tears. We’re going to dive into the experiences and hard learned lessons along the way.
We discuss:
Stuart’s injury on May 26th.
Initial emotional reactions when we got hurt
Depression post-injury
Heavy doses of reality.
The pain scale changes forever.
The mindset around a career-ending injury.
Why did we create this resource?
Systematizing the rehab process.
Functional benchmarks in rehab as a guideline.
Is there a role for physical therapy within the process of rehab?
Weird things we ran into in rehab.
Things that really moved the needle in the right direction.
At the end of the day, don't be a pussy and learn to work hard!
