Deborah Netolicky talks with Karen Spiller OAM CF about leadership and governance in schools. For 23 years, Karen was Principal of two schools in Queensland: St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School and John Paul College. She has also been the Chair of the national bodies the Association of Heads of Independent Schools, Australia and the Alliance of Girls Schools, Australasia. Karen was a member of the Board of Independent Schools Australia and Yalari and was Chair of The Board of Independent Schools Queensland for six years. Karen was a member of the St Laurence’s College Board for five years and is now a member of the Sisters of the Sacred Advent Trust - the governing body that oversees St Aidan’s and St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ Schools. She is also a member of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools Australia Commission and remains a member of QUT Council as well as a member of the Finance and Planning subcommittee of the Council. Karen holds an MBA, a Masters of Educational Administration and is a Fellow of AICD and ACEL.
