Radha Agrawal has created Daybreaker, an early morning sober dance celebration that happens in more than 25 cities and over a dozen college campuses.
Radha Agrawal transitioned from a career in investment banking to becoming a social entrepreneur, author, DJ, inventor, and investor.
Radha Agrawal's new book, Belong, explores the ideas of finding one's people and creating large and meaningful communities in the real world.
Radha Agrawal emphasizes the importance of self-awareness in understanding how we show up in the world and how we connect with others.
Building authentic community requires self-awareness and embodying the qualities that attract the desired friends. By being true to oneself, radiating kindness and authenticity, it becomes possible to attract like-minded individuals. Self-awareness is a daily practice, as there may be moments of reverting to old patterns and putting on facades. Being fully authentic and embracing one's uniqueness is key to fostering genuine connections and building a sense of belonging.
Belonging is a fundamental human need that can be fulfilled by cultivating the four happy brain chemicals: dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. Community acts as a container for experiencing belonging. Dopamine is linked to pleasure and can be derived from accomplishing tasks or engaging in enjoyable activities. Oxytocin is generated through touch and affection, which humans often lack. Serotonin arises from a sense of worth and accomplishment, while endorphins are released during physical activities. Belonging thrives at the intersection of mystery and safety, combining the excitement of the unknown with the reassurance of a supportive environment.
Radha Agrawal (http://radhaagrawal.com/) is the co-Founder, CEO and Chief Community Architect of Daybreaker (http://daybreaker.com/), the early morning, sober dance celebration. But, none of this would have happened had she stuck to her original plan to build a career as a New York City investment banker. In today’s conversation, we dive deep into her journey and explore critical moments of awakening and change, along with ideas from her new book BELONG: Find Your People, Create Community & Live A More Connected Life (https://amzn.to/2NyYJxj). We also explore answers to the question, "how do I find my people?" and "How do I create large and meaningful communities in the real world?"
