Can Microplastics Harm the Thyroid?
Microplastics, generated from plastic degradation, persist in the environment for hundreds, even thousands of years. If current production and waste management trends continue, approximately 12,000 metric tons of plastic waste will be released into the natural environment by 2050.
According to the research, people consume between 39,000 and 52,000 particles of microplastics annually, which contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals and other harmful compounds. Today, I’m discussing the potential effects of microplastics on the thyroid gland, their impact on endocrine function, and how you can minimize your exposure.
In this episode, you’ll learn about:
- Understanding microplastics and nanoplastics
- The harmful effects of microplastics on various species and ecosystems
- How microplastics can act as endocrine disruptors
- Effects of microplastics on the thyroid
- How microplastics affect gut health
- Common sources of microplastics
- Minimizing your exposure to microplastics and supporting detoxification
As always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
