Bob Falconer, author of "The Others Within Us: Internal Family Systems, Porous Mind, and Spirit Possession," explores accepting the porosity of our minds and its impact on spirituality. They discuss the use of client language, labels in therapy, and the fascinating work of Chico Xavier. They also touch on mediums, upcoming workshops, and the connection between IFS and shamanism. Check out Bob's website for more information.
Embracing the porosity of our minds opens us up to experiences of spirituality and connection to something greater, enhancing our well-being and alleviating suffering.
In discerning between unattached burdens and spirit guides, it is important to pay attention to their impact on our lives and how they react to our fears, as spirit guides promote love, growth, and healing while unattached burdens often have negative intentions and may trigger fear.
Deep dives
The concept of porous minds and its impact
Our minds are porous and connected to something much bigger than us. This idea challenges the notion of the 'citadel model of mind' in Western culture, which isolates and restricts our understanding of self. Embracing the porosity of our minds opens us up to experiences of spirituality and connection to something greater, which can enhance our well-being and alleviate suffering.
Differentiating between unattached burdens and spirit guides
In working with parts and exploring the concept of external energies, it is crucial to discern between unattached burdens (UBs) and spirit guides. UBs often have negative intentions and may trigger fear, while spirit guides have a profound respect for our free will and act in ways that promote love, growth, and healing. The process of discernment involves paying attention to their impact on our lives and how they react to our fears.
The importance of validation and acceptance
Validation plays a crucial role in supporting individuals who experience phenomena such as spirit possession, past lives, or communication with deceased relatives. Our culture often dismisses or pathologizes these experiences, leading to feelings of isolation and shame. Providing validation and a safe container for individuals to share their experiences can help lessen their suffering and create space for healing and growth.
Future endeavors and focus areas
Bob Faulkner intends to continue writing and sharing his insights and experiences with others. He plans to publish more books, including a volume of edited written dialogues with spirit guides and a compilation of quotations related to spirituality and healing. Additionally, he is working on creating online classes and workshops, collaborating with professionals to explore the integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) with other modalities like nonviolent communication (NVC).
