Deep dives
Classroom Assessment Techniques Origin and Evolution
Classroom assessment techniques originated during the era of traditional teaching methods and aimed to shift the focus from teacher-centered to learner-centered instructions. The introduction of generative AI enhances these techniques by offering immediate feedback, aiding instructors in adapting their teaching approaches based on student learning outcomes.
Author's Journey in Contributing to a Classic Book
Todd Zukryzak, an associate research professor, reflects on his journey contributing to the third edition of 'Classroom Assessment Techniques.' Initially approached to work on another book, Todd's involvement in this project stemmed from his admiration for the influential nature of the techniques outlined in the book.
Value of Classroom Assessment Techniques in Education
Classroom assessment techniques offer multifaceted benefits, including assessing student learning, evaluating teaching effectiveness, and addressing equity issues in the classroom. These techniques provide insights into student progress and learning styles, giving instructors a more holistic understanding of their students.
Transformative Impact of Generative AI in Higher Education
The integration of generative AI tools like chat GPT in higher education heralds significant changes in instructional practices. While debates arise over AI's potential harms and benefits, its impact on individualized instruction, real-time data analysis, and qualitative assessment marks a transformative shift in educational practices.
Classroom assessment techniques, initially developed at a time when chalk-and-talk instruction was the norm, helped to shift the focus from teacher-centered to learner-centered instruction. In this episode, Todd Zakrajsek joins us to discuss how generative AI can enhance these techniques by providing more immediate feedback.
