Deep dives
The Evolution of AI and Deep Fakes
Deep fakes, fueled by the advancement of technology, pose a growing threat with no clear solution to combat them.
Insiders and Hackers as Cybersecurity Risks
One of the major threats to cybersecurity comes from insiders within an organization, whether it's intentional or accidental. Additionally, there are hackers who engage in hacking for fun or to make a statement.
The Shifting Threat Landscape in the Digital World
As businesses increasingly rely on technology, the attack surface for cyber threats expands. The proliferation of technology and the explosion of data create more opportunities for cyber attacks, resulting in businesses feeling more threatened.
The Limitations and Current State of AI
Artificial Intelligence, particularly in the form of GPT-like models, is limited in its understanding and scope. It is capable of generating text and providing intelligent answers based on pre-existing data, but it lacks true intelligence and curiosity.
Deepfakes and Forensic Tools
Deepfakes are continuously improving and becoming more realistic as picture and video generation technology advances. Detecting deepfakes forensically is possible, but it becomes challenging for individuals to identify them with certainty. Slowing down deepfake videos can reveal inconsistencies and less densely populated frames, but this method may not be foolproof. While some websites claim to detect deepfakes, verifying their authenticity may be difficult. Additionally, there is no specific law addressing deepfakes in India or other countries, but certain sections of the Indian IT Act can be applied if someone is impersonated or misused.
Big Tech Companies and AI
Big tech companies are not just using AI as a tool, but are striving to become AI companies themselves. AI is being integrated into various aspects of these companies' operations, and becoming AI-driven is the next evolution. Platforms offering AI capabilities are becoming increasingly significant, similar to how compute models transformed the cloud computing landscape. These companies are leveraging AI in areas such as advertising, data analysis, and self-driving cars. However, they face challenges in truly understanding human behavior and the limitations of AI. Despite advancements, the notion that AI will fully replace humans or possess human-like thinking is inaccurate. AI should be viewed as a powerful tool to augment human capabilities rather than as a replacement.
