Challenges of fostering belonging amidst laws against DEI

One of the main topics discussed in the program is the challenge of fostering a sense of belonging in student affairs amidst laws and policies that go against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. For example, lawmakers passing laws that hinder DEI work in certain states like Texas and Florida. The students are learning how to navigate these challenges and find alternative ways to create inclusive environments for all students. They are also engaging in hands-on experiences, such as working on projects focused on sense of belonging for specific student populations, such as black men and rural students.
