152. Having Trouble Putting Yourself First and Making Time for YOU? 5 Tips That Can Help!
What do you think about when you think about nurturing yourself?
How does it make your feel? What is your first reaction?
The concept of self-care may be foreign to you, because it is a learned behavior taught to us by our primary caretakers. For those of us who were raised to be tough and successful to the detriment of our emotional safety, the mere idea of self care may feel frustrating or confusing. But the truth is, people who succeed prioritize themselves and their desires. Contrary to societal norms, which promotes "selflessness" and giving maximal effort in all endeavors, I have learned that the self absolutely must come first. Only once the self has been nurtured can we provide for others and the collective. As they say, you can't pour from an empty cup!
So, do you struggle to nurture yourself? In this episode, I reference Laura Davis's "Courage to Heal Workbook," which was designed to support the healing journey of child abuse survivors. If self care is difficult for you, you may find insight by asking yourself the following questions:
- Are you gentle and forgiving with yourself when you make a mistake?
- Are you able to take breaks?
- Are you able to do things you enjoy?
- Are you on your own side, or are you still fighting yourself every step along the way?
- Do you give yourself credit for your accomplishments?
- Are you proud of yourself?
I hope this episode inspired you to continue developing your unique practice of self-nurture. If so, sharing your kind thoughts & feedback in a quick review is the ULTIMATE way to support Awakening Aphrodite.
