Deep dives
Deciding from a Trustworthy Place
One key aspect of making decisions is to determine when you are the most trustworthy. Identifying the times when you feel calm and alone allows you to make decisions with greater confidence. By addressing concerns and filtering through potential issues during these moments, you can trust the decisions you make. Understanding your own trustworthy moments, whether it's in the morning, when you're alone, or when you're with trusted individuals, can greatly aid in decision-making.
Decisions and Unintended Outcomes
It is essential to remember that decisions will not always turn out as intended, and this does not automatically imply making the wrong decision. Accepting that unforeseen outcomes are part of the decision-making process can alleviate anxiety and indecisiveness. While it is natural to analyze decisions in an attempt to avoid mistakes, it is impossible to predict all outcomes. Understanding that some percentage of decisions will not go as planned, regardless of thorough analysis, can provide comfort in making decisions.
Being Willing to Fix Mistakes
Embracing the idea that some decisions may require fixing when they don't go as intended can empower decision-makers. Rather than regretting or blaming ourselves, we can be individuals who are comfortable with the responsibility of fixing a decision's aftermath. Recognizing that most decisions are reversible and that we can find solutions and learn from the consequences can help alleviate the fear of making mistakes.
In this episode, I am talking about the pulling-the-trigger part of decision making. The part when you basically know what you want, but sometimes you hesitate, you feel anxious and indecisive and put off actually making the decision.
I come to this episode as someone who has struggled to make decisions in the past.
I'm sharing five practices or thoughts that have been helpful to me and my clients, in the hopes that they might be helpful to you, too.
