Deep dives
Trieva's Trauma and Escape
Trieva Thromberry, born in Texas in 1969, experienced serious sexual abuse at the hands of her uncle. When she turned 16, she reported that her father had raped her at gunpoint. Removed from her home, she was placed in foster care and later moved to the Lena Pope home for girls. After she turned 18, Trieva returned home to Electra, Texas, but refused to see her parents, only visiting her sisters.
Creating a New Identity
Trieva assumed the identity of Brianna Stewart, claiming to be a teenager running away from an abusive home. She posed as a high school student, attended school, and formed relationships. She continuously changed aliases and submitted false claims to gain attention and sympathy.
Unraveling the Deception
After years of living as Brianna, Trieva's fingerprints were discovered to match those of a missing person named Trieva Thromberry. She was arrested and faced charges of fraud and perjury. Trieva maintained her innocence, refusing to acknowledge her true identity.
Possible Motivations and Mental Health
The motivations behind Trieva's deception are not clear. It is speculated that she may have been seeking financial support or unable to face the trauma of her past. While conditions like dissociative identity disorder and factitious disorder were considered, they do not fully align with Trieva's behavior. The lack of support from the foster care system and the challenges faced upon aging out may have contributed to her actions.
