

15. Nick Bracks - Overcoming Tall Poppy Syndrome and growing up in the public eye of Australia
Nick Bracks, the founder of “Move your Mind” joins us on todays episode sharing his unique story. Nick grew up in one of the most famous political families in Australia. Since 12 years old, he has been exposed to life in the public eye and was known as “the son of Steve Bracks”. However, disaster struck Nick in 2007 when going on a joy ride with his best mate, they experienced a fatal car crash that nearly killed them both.
A near death experience is hard to deal with, let alone with it being the biggest news in the Australia media at the time.
Since then, Nick took the opportunity to speak publicly about his battle with depression and anxiety, becoming a pioneer in mental health advocacy.
He has developed a successful public speaking career on the topic of mental health, conducting over 1,000 talks at organisations around the world, including several TED talks. Nick has also featured on neighbours, dancing with the starts and is the founder of “Move your Mind” where he dedicates his life entire adult life to de-stigmatising mental illness through storytelling
