Renew 2030: Scaling Wind and Solar for Climate Protection

Renew 2030 is a coalition of regional climate foundations, think tanks, and NGOs focused on scaling wind and solar energy worldwide. The power sector, responsible for 50% of emissions, needs to transition quickly to electrify other sectors and reduce emissions by 2030. The transition must be fast, fair, and consultative to ensure equitable community involvement, responsible sourcing of transition minerals, and targeted financial support. However, non-cost barriers such as lack of ambition, policy, investment, permitting, planning, and misinformation hinder progress. Renew 2030 supports groups working on these barriers through levers like policy, advocacy, narrative building, and storytelling. Collaborating with communities and national governments is crucial for exponential change and disruptive growth in wind and solar installations by 2030, alongside creating local jobs, clean air, and affordable, clean electricity.
