Putin also announced his intention to stand for a fifth term in office, signaling his confidence in Russia's prospects. The press conference included moments of retail politics as Russians submitted videos pleading for intervention in daily life problems. Although some questions were raised about the war in Ukraine, Putin easily handled them, showcasing his experience in handling meddlesome queries.
Supreme Court to Review Abortion Pill Case
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case regarding an abortion pill, Mifepristone. The lower courts have delivered mixed rulings on the pill's access and use, with some anti-abortion organizations arguing that the FDA's approval process was flawed. If the Supreme Court upholds the appellate ruling, patients will no longer be able to receive the pill through mail or use it until the 10th week of pregnancy. Instead, they would be required to make in-person appointments with doctors. However, medication abortion would still be available using MisoProstol, a drug that was approved by the FDA in 1988.
Fraud Trial of Former President Trump Concludes
The 10-week fraud trial against former President Donald Trump has concluded, and the case now goes to the judge. The trial revealed details about the Trump Organization's alleged persistent and repeated fraud, with employees, appraisers, and accountants testifying about manipulated property values. The Trumps are accused of inflating property values to secure loans and other benefits. While the judge has already ruled in favor of the New York Attorney General on one count, the extent to which the Trumps will be required to pay back the state remains to be determined. The defense argued that no one was harmed and accused the AG and judge of bias.
