Steven Pressfield on Consistency, Overcoming Resistance and Discipline
Show Up Consistently
- Show up even when you don't want to; that's what separates amateurs from professionals.
- This applies to any creative pursuit, whether it's writing, physical fitness, or any other field.
The Challenge of Measuring Writing Progress
- Quantifying daily writing progress is difficult, making it easy to cheat oneself.
- The publishable output is a lagging indicator of day-to-day effort, so focus on consistency.
Managing Non-Writing Tasks
- Non-writing tasks should either be enjoyable or support your writing.
- The pandemic highlighted how much these tasks can be time-consuming and unnecessary.
