Eric Cressey on Load vs. Capacity, “Sticky” Businesses, and the 8-Week Magic Mark in Rehab

What has Eric Cressey NOT accomplished in his career?

He’s the President of Cressey Sports Performance, and the Director of Player Health and Performance for THE New York Yankees.

And of course he’s a published author, internationally renowned speaker, and the host of the Elite Baseball Development podcast.

But perhaps most importantly to me, Eric is someone that I’ve grown up in this industry alongside, and I couldn’t be happier to see his success – and to have him back on the podcast this week!

In this episode, I really wanted to hone in on the journey of a coach, and highlight the ups and downs we all go through in our career.

And while we do talk some X’s and O’s training at the end, I think you’re going to love hearing what really makes Eric Cressey tick, and what’s turned him into the coach he is today.

Let’s do this!

You’ve got to prove value – we trained pro guys for free for a couple years before we ever thought about charging them… That was a really transformative time when we realized people were relocating just to train with us. –  Eric Cressey

This Week on the Physical Prep Podcast:

  • A little bit about Eric and what’s new in his world.
  • What originally got him into coaching, along with his early mentors and influences.
  • How he got started in the writing game, and why he still prefers writing over speaking.
  • Finding your voice: What Eric did to come into his own.
  • Did THE Eric Cressey ever doubt himself as a coach?
  • What it means to build a “Stick Business” – and why that was such a big goal and focus for him.
  • How a tennis player with beat-up shoulders became the world’s foremost baseball S&C Coach.
  • Eric’s thoughts on shoulder training and management, and how that’s evolved over the course of his 20-year career.
  • Why Load vs. Capacity is one of the most critical aspects of ANY injury.
  • ONE ASPECT of movement that could help athletes improve their long-term health and performance.
  • His advice for young coaches, and where you can (and probably won’t) find mentors.
  • A really fun lightning round where we talk kiddos, Spring Training, how he does all the things, and what’s next for Eric Cressey.
