Nick Averona (@coachnickav) is the Head Trainer at Gage Strength Training (@gagestrengthtraining) in West Chester PA. Nick is part of a rare breed of coaches who both know the science of training inside and out, but also know how to connect with people on an individual human level, and this is what makes him so great.
There’s so much more to coaching than knowing what’s in the textbook. That stuff matters, a lot, but it doesn’t matter more than knowing the person in front of you. Nick and I spoke about this so much, dropping little practical tips along the way of things we’ve learned through our clients that may apply in a similar way to your own life.
We spoke a lot about how all the biggest wins in the gym have nothing to do with putting up big numbers in the weight room or seeing certain numbers on the scale. Again, those things matter, but does it matter more than being able to go up the stairs without pain, or having enough energy to play with your kids, or having confidence in your daily life, or simply feeling better? I think not. It’s hard to spot these though, so we brought it to light.
I had a blast in this conversation and I think there’s something to take away for everyone in this one, both fellow coaches and gym goers alike.
