Deep dives
Starting my own SEO company
After realizing the limitations of my salary at Tribune, I decided to start my own SEO company, Loud Interactive. I had already been doing consulting on the side and had built up a solid client base. Within a few months, I was making $280,000 to $300,000 a year.
The downfall of losing a major client
The loss of Groupon as a client, which accounted for 80% of my revenue, was a major challenge. I became complacent and didn't see the warning signs. When they didn't choose us in an RFP, it was a wake-up call. I went from making seven figures to negative $250,000 that year. I had to fire employees and face financial hardship.
Stories of overcoming challenges
During my journey, I faced many challenges. I had clients taking advantage of me, and I made poor financial decisions. It was a humbling experience that taught me valuable lessons. But I didn't give up. I brought in new clients, rebuilt the business, and learned to be more responsible.
