When David Implemented THIS Strategy, His Life Changed Forever | David T.S. Wood

“When I take 100% responsibility for everything in my life and everything not in my life, there’s no one left to blame.” — David T.S. Wood

One of the reasons David shies away from social media is that influencers tell people how to live. They push quotes and personal development. David believes the best way to bring a quote to life is to share a story—not push it down people’s throats. In this solo episode of My Extra Mile, David tells some stories to share how he’s implemented this quote in his life with radical results. Don’t miss it!

Why take 100% responsibility for everything in your life?

It’s an empowering quote—but only if you live it. When you take 100% responsibility for everything—the empty bank account, maxed out credit cards, or being overweight—you don’t live in the world as a victim.

Once you take responsibility for the good, the bad, and the ugly, then you have the power to do something about those situations. It’s easy to blame external circumstances. But there are plenty of people who are living through the same hardships you are who model the right way to do things. There are thousands of people who live a fit and healthy life with the body you want.

David had an urgent phone call with a successful, wealthy individual. Something happened that David never does—he overslept the call. David always strives to be an honest person. But because he missed the call, he felt himself searching for an excuse, a little white lie or justification to ease his embarrassment. But in the end, he said “You’ll never guess what—I overslept.” They laughed about it and moved on. He took responsibility.

You have to be unattached to being right

David points out that if you want to be right, you’ll live in a world of resistance or struggle. When David first started backpacking, he spent some time in Egypt. While there, he studied the pharaohs who believed that there were multiple answers to every question. David lives his life in the realization that there’s not one clear-cut answer. Everyone has a different perspective. Someone else doesn’t have to be wrong for you to be right.

The importance of celebrating your wins

When David looks at his home, his lifestyle, and his ability to do things—he takes responsibility for those things, too. He navigated his life to be successful and he’s very blessed, grateful, and fortunate. He can say “I created this.” You can remain humble and still celebrate your wins.

David suggests doing an exercise: write down the things you’ve accomplished that you can celebrate in your life. Then take the time to truly celebrate your wins. When you take responsibility for your wins, you build momentum towards the next step you take.

David emphasizes that as you take responsibility for the good, it feeds your soul and allows you to move forward with more energy, passion, and confidence. When you are confident you are magnetic and attract more of what you want. Responsibility makes you invincible because everything starts and ends with you.

David shares more personal stories to emphasize his point + another exercise you can use to change your life. Don’t miss this short but powerful episode!
