Episode 9 - Health Care Provider Burnout - Together We Rise
Burnout is work place related stress which is characterized by a state of physical and/or emotional exhaustion, a sense of reduced accomplishment, and, often, a loss of personal identity.
The repercussions of burnout/moral injury are serious. In fact, in the United States, an estimated 300 to 400 doctors die by suicide each year, which is more than double that of general population.
We are in a health care crisis. This affects not just the medical team, but also the patients we serve. The band-aids that are tenuously holding the system together are starting to come undone. I ask that we, as a community, come together to seek out and implement solutions that sustainable. It is time for change.
