Welcome to the fifth episode of the Curiosity Mindset podcast and the final in this limited series on the future of leadership development.
Introduction and context
In February 2024, the inaugural Leadership Development Summit was held in Tasmania, Australia.
As a direct outcome, a white paper was produced identifying 5 major challenges:
1) Research-practice gap
2) Divergent worldviews
3) Challenges of leadership measurement
4) Complexity and systems thinking
5) Future of leadership development
In this limited series, I will be interviewing 5 people who contributed to the paper to reflect on what's changed since the 2024 summit, what new challenges are being experienced by leaders, and what they believe we need to be talking about at the next summit in December 2025, in Canberra.
About our guest
In this final episode, I speak with Andrea Hogg.
Andrea Hogg is a highly experienced leader in adult education, leadership development, and community resilience, currently serving as the Director of Leadership Innovation at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF). She is dedicated to fostering leadership in rural, regional, and remote Australia, ensuring communities are equipped to navigate complex challenges such as climate change, demographic shifts, and economic transitions.
With a strong background in leadership program design, adult learning theory, and community development, Andrea has played a pivotal role in shaping experiential learning programs for up to 800 participants annually. She specialises in place-based leadership development, incorporating First Nations knowledge systems, adaptive change frameworks, and trauma-informed practice to strengthen social capital in communities. Her work includes designing resilience programs for disaster recovery and mentorship initiatives to support individuals in regional Australia.
She is also deeply involved in academic collaboration, contributing to research-informed leadership practices that bridge the gap between theory and practice and is a committee member for the design and delivery of the Leadership Development Summit in Canberra in December 8th to 10th.

We discuss what it means to engage with tension and conflict, psychological safety, who is involved in the world of leadership development, and what type of impact we are really trying to seek in our work.
