In today’s podcast, we speak to Glenn Poole, CEO of the Australian Men’s Health Forum (AMHF), the peak body for men’s health in Australia. With the aim of improving male health across the lifespan, AMHF explores the how and why of male attitudes to health and how this may impact their quality & quantity of life. Linking up with a diverse network of individuals and organisations that work together, AMHF provides a central point for improved outcomes and the sharing of knowledge and programs across Australia. Glenn joins Melissa & Dr Jo as they tackle some of the tricky topics that can affect boys and men. This includes addressing the physical, social, spiritual, sexual, and relationship needs of males across the lifespan - from school to retirement and beyond. It is a little-known fact that men have a 4-5 year reduced lifespan vs females and are at higher risk for many diseases and poorer health in areas such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and suicide. Research shows that the best way to improve men’s health is to tackle the underlying social factors like education, fatherhood, work-life, social connection and access to male-friendly services and Glenn discusses how he puts this into practice.
