Why You Need Narrative with Randy Olson
Episode 63. Why You Need Narrative with Randy Olson
Why has the climate movement achieved so little success so far? How is that same problem affecting most people's communication? How can you easily get to the core of your message, and structure it in a way that triggers the narrative brain?
Welcome to The Storypowers Podcast, the show about the power of stories, the people who tell them and why you should be doing it too. I’m your host, keynote speaker and storytelling coach, Francisco Mahfuz.
My guest today is Dr. Randy Olson.
Randy is a Ph.D. Evolutionary Biologist from Harvard AND a graduate of the legendary USC film school with three documentaries under his belt.
BUT one day he got fed up with how scientists were doing such a poor job of talking about their work. THEREFORE he decided to join his Hollywood skills with his scientific background to uncover and teach the ABT framework, which has been called the DNA of story.
He’s now got 5 books on the subject, including Houston, We Have A Narrative: Why Science Needs Story, and his latest, The Narrative Gym.
You can find Randy on his blog, http://scienceneedsstory.com, and the event we mentioned on the 9th of June is here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-narrative-blitz-redux-tickets-151542249949
