Dr Jack Kruse, world-respected neurosurgeon and CEO of Optimized Life and Kruse Longevity Center, discusses the deep connection between thermodynamics in biology and the processing of energy and information. He explores the significance of light, water, and magnetism in disease prevention and overall health. Topics covered include the three-legged stool of life, the importance of physics and water in biology, the impact of light on autophagy and apoptosis, timing differences in cellular functions, and the role of DHA, RXR, and VDR in light-based control mechanisms.
Light plays a crucial role in regulating our biological clock and coordinating various processes tied to circadian biology.
A diet rich in marine-based foods, such as oysters, which are high in DHA, can help restore the molecular order and prevent inflammation in the body.
Observing and embracing nature's cues, such as watching the sunrise and avoiding artificial light, is crucial for improving circadian biology and overall health.
Deep dives
The Importance of Circadian Biology for Overall Health
Circadian biology, specifically how light, diet, and environment affect our bodies during day and night, plays a fundamental role in our overall health. The clock mechanism in our eyes, controlled by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), coordinates the biochemical reactions and hormone release necessary for our well-being. Seeing the sunrise every morning sets the circadian mechanism in motion, ensuring proper timing and molecular order throughout the body.
The Role of Light in Controlling our Biological Clock
Light is crucial for regulating our biological clock. In the morning, light with a color temperature around 1600 Kelvin starts the time ticking in the brain, coordinating various processes tied to circadian biology. Melatonin, commonly known as the hormone of darkness, is made from tryptophan, an aromatic amino acid. Tryptophan acts as a time crystal, capturing light, including UV light in its absorption spectrum, further emphasizing the vital role of light in regulating our bodies.
The Significance of DHA in the Central Retinal Pathway
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), found in fish oil, is essential for healthy functioning of the central retinal pathway, which connects the eye to the hypothalamus. DHA allows the clock mechanism, controlled by the suprachiasmatic nucleus, to run faster than other molecular clocks in the body, ensuring proper timing throughout various tissues. A diet rich in marine-based foods, such as oysters, which are high in DHA, can help recapture the short and long loops of the clock mechanism, restoring molecular order and preventing inflammation.
The Impact of Deuterium on Cellular Function and Mitochondria
Deuterium, a form of hydrogen, plays a critical role in cellular function, particularly in mitochondria. While heavy hydrogen or deuterium is present in our blood plasma, mitochondria require deuterium-depleted water and light hydrogen to function optimally. DHA, being rich in light hydrogen, contributes to proper functioning of the mitochondria. Exposure to artificial light and lack of marine-based diet can disrupt the short and long loops of the clock mechanism, leading to leptin resistance and reduced mitochondrial efficiency.
The Importance of Observing Nature's Cues and Disrupting the Technocracy
Observing and embracing nature's cues is crucial for our health and well-being. Watching the sunrise every morning, avoiding artificial light indoors, and prioritizing a marine-based diet can help restore the balance and timing mechanisms within our bodies. Humans, now the most domesticated animal, have become disconnected from the natural rhythms and light environments we require. By aligning ourselves with nature's cues, we can improve our circadian biology and overall health.
