Restorative Culture: Moving Beyond Just Culture

Restorative culture, a concept that goes beyond just culture, is discussed in this episode. Just culture, which focuses on assigning blame and providing the right response based on the worker's rationale, became an algorithm and lost its sustainability. Restorative culture, however, focuses on understanding who has been hurt, what they need, and who is responsible for meeting those needs. This concept originated from South Africa's response to apartheid. It recognizes that bad things happen in organizations, and instead of separating leadership from workers, it encourages a restorative approach to address the pain points and restore the organization's ability to manage problems better than before.
