Why do you practice postures?
Today and over the next 3 episodes let's explore what it really is that we are doing when we do yoga. Is it to reach a goal of flexibility? Is it to be present in the body? Is it to tune out from life for an hour in a day? What if all perspectives can be valid and appropriate and the real aim is to develop your inner authority that knows which perspective is in alignment for you? I'll share insights from all the way back at my very first yoga class and how that continues to shape my practice and perspective today, as well as thoughts from my mentors, historical teachers, the source texts of yoga and modern science.
