Deep dives
Teaching and instructing
As the prophet of the home, fathers have the responsibility to teach and instruct their children in God's word, standards, and ways. This involves communicating the truths of scripture and guiding their children in applying these principles to their lives. It requires wisdom to untangle the deceptive messages of culture and help children understand that God's boundaries are rooted in love and protection, such as teaching them about the biblical view of sexuality and how boundaries are for their well-being.
Resisting worldly idols
Fathers are called to resist the temptations of pleasure, comfort, and wealth, and model modesty and frugality to their children. By resisting the pursuit of worldly possessions and luxury, fathers demonstrate that true satisfaction and fulfillment come from a relationship with Jesus, not from material wealth or extravagant lifestyles. They encourage their children to value treasures in heaven, serve the poor, and actively engage in missions, showing that possessions and comfort are not the ultimate sources of joy and contentment.
Modeling satisfaction in Jesus alone
As the prophet of the home, fathers must model true satisfaction and joy that can only be found in Jesus. By prioritizing time in prayer, worship, evangelism, and serving others, fathers show their children that nothing in this world compares to the joy of knowing and following Jesus. Through their words and actions, they teach their children that a life centered on Jesus and aligned with his kingdom brings the deepest satisfaction and true fulfillment.
In today's episode of the Dad Tired podcast, pastor Kaleb Allen disects the idea of what it means to be a Prophet, Priest, and King as a dad; and specfically what it looks like to embrace godly stubborness.
