Episode 6: Dr. Shawn Neff is BACK with Part 3 of our series on saying goodbye to patients. Remember back in episodes 3 and 5, sometimes we do this because a patient is either doing well and no longer needs our care or maybe co-management with another provider is the next step. In this episode, we talk about the “not-so-fun” reasons. Maybe your treatment options aren’t working, so now we need to try something else? Maybe the patient has a condition outside of your scope or something potentially life threatening that needs to be referred out immediately? Whatever the case may be, we need to be able to handle this with poise and confidence. We need to understand when and where this is acceptable. We need to be prepared.
