Let's change the stigma on cancer: Will Wise on living life with stage 4 cancer
I am joined today by Will Wise for a World Cancer Day special of Death on the Daily. Will shares his journey from being a professional basketball player to being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. How his journey of not battling, but living with cancer has led him to advocating for cancer awareness and changing the stigma around cancer through his charity, CancerBae.
We discuss the societal perceptions of cancer, how the media and entertainment’s representations of cancer creates a narrow view, the need for open conversations, and how embracing life's challenges can lead to personal growth and a deeper understanding of what it means to live well.
We explore the themes of resilience, hope, and the importance of positivity in the face of adversity, particularly in the context of cancer. We discuss the journey of navigating difficult emotions, and mindset and the role for hope, optimism and connecting into the beauty of life when we are navigating life’s biggest challenges.
We also speak to the power of community, awareness, and the need to have open discussions about cancer and its impact on individuals and families. With 1 in 2 facing a diagnosis of cancer in our lifetimes, it’s a conversation that should not just be left on the shoulders of those affected - but one for all of us to lean into.
